Overview: This is an exceptional opportunity to join a global leading manufacturing company based in Poole Dorset. Leading the design, quality, purchasing and production teams, the Engineering Director will work closely with the company Board of Directors to develop and grow the company's reputation as the leading Innovations Company in our Industry.

Key requirements: The individual must possess a proven track record of excellent Innovation, R&D and Design technical skills, be innovative, an excellent coach/mentor, capable presenter and have strong analytical skills. The role would suit a degree qualified individual with 10+ years of professional experience. An MBA or equivalent business qualification will also be a distinct advantage.

Key duties and responsibilities:

Confer with management, production, service and the sales and marketing team to discuss project specifications and procedures.
Coordinate and direct projects within the production team, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and direct the integration of technical activities. Creating briefing documents for both the internal team and external contractors.
Undertake relevant research, analyse technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
The candidate will need to be able to assist in supporting the service team with fault diagnosis and technical enquiries. Also failure analysis of failed components returned from field service team.
Direct and drive quality control, standards and improvement in the production team.
Direct, review, and approve product design and changes.
Work with the production team to analyse and review generated concepts and final design solutions prior to sign off.
Measure and manage the production and supply chain, driving efficiency and performance improvements.
Assign, direct, and evaluate the production team and oversee the development and maintenance of their competencies.
Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed by the company
Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
Review, recommend and approve contracts and cost estimates.  Present and explain proposals, reports, and findings to the Board.
Manage and update technical files for the company products.
Ensure appropriate regulatory compliance is adhered to achieve commercial success
Manage and keep up to date product approvals and certificates.

Assess market activity and trends to look for opportunities to review product innovation and design Agree budgets, timescales and specifications with management, contractors and suppliers

Qualifications, skills and experience:
Related Experience Comprehensive experience as a Director of Engineering, Innovation and Design in an Engineering Company Firm understanding of the Hospital, Care Home and Medical Industries Exceptional communication / interpersonal skills

Business Skills Good understanding of the need to satisfy business & customer demands and expectations Understanding of innovation and design best practise Strong leadership skills

Personal Skills Good team player Ability to work on own initiative Good time management skills Ability to problem solve Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously Goal orientated Good working knowledge of Microsoft Software Experience with 3D CAD software is not essential but would be advantageous

Business Awareness Understanding of the importance of satisfying both internal and external customers Able to understand the balance required within business for meeting agreed targets

Qualifications and Experience Degree qualification or equivalent with an MBA or other recognised business qualification a distinct advantage
Other Able to work overtime when required Current driving licence Able to undertake regular Business travel as required, both domestically and internationally Additional language skills an advantage
