LinkedIn and 14 tips to get more out of it
LinkedIn is growing exponentially but if you have been using it for while but don’t feel 100% sure that you are getting the most out of it, this career guide is for you. Here are 14 tips to help you get it working for you better in your job search.
1. Awareness: It helps you build your brand and get recognition
2. Goal: Make sure you have a clear goal for using it and plan to achieve it
3. Key words: Come up with some key words using Google Key word too that best represent what you offer/your specialisms, choose 3-4 of these phrases and use them in each section of your LinkedIn profile
4. Stand out: Research how your competitors present themselves and what works well and less well
5. Acquire knowledge: Join some groups to gain knowledge of a new topic and meet useful contacts
6. Accuracy: Take time to craft group postings and create in Word, spell check and copy and paste onto LinkedIn
7. Community: Be aware of and support your LinkedIn connections so they support you when you need it
8. Indelible: Remember the permanency of anything you post – do it well or don’t do it
9. Consistent: Stay connected and log on regularly
10. Who do you know: Get your real life connections on LinkedIn
11. Stay connected: Being unemployed or setting up on your own can be isolating and LinkedIn helps prevent professional isolation
12. Co-create: Review your connections and think who has similar values and who you could co-create opportunities with/introduce you to useful people
13. Credibility: Many employers will look at your LinkedIn profile before inviting you for interview, so make your profile look professional and keep it up to date
14. Indirect: It is more of an indirect rather than direct tool
